City Wide 20mph Zone

The Brief

Coventry City Council had a vision to transform the City through an ambitious series of public realm schemes aimed at improving safety in strategic areas and took the decision to make Coventry the first major UK city designated a 20mph zone.

It was important that a strong visual signal was provided to drivers when entering these zones through the use of road markings which had the resilience and durability to handle high volumes of traffic over long periods.

The TexturePrint Solution

A unique recessed thermoplastic roundel was devised by applying TexturepPrint embossed thermoplastic to the existing surface before the chosen design was traced out and excess material removed. White TexturePrint was then applied creating a roundel which will not break off, fade or wear out.

This innovative design and installation has been adopted as part of traffic safety engineering schemes by local authorities across the UK.
